Dear Taylor,
I hope with good time my letters do not become a song like
the video above.
Recently I wrote an update message on Facebook about you – I
do not remember the specifics of the status check, only the comment of a friend
who asked me not to write such messages about you. He actually thought I could
never get a date with you – how absurd is that! His claim was that if I actually became one of
those jerks you once dated (which would never happen because I am a true
southern gentleman), you would then write a negative song that could destroy my
reputation in the Christian world of literature, speaking, and photography. And
truth be told we would never want that to happen. His observation resonates
with me because so many have fallen subject to your creative lyrics. It is kind
of like an obituary: most of us want to be remembered by the good things we do
in life, not the bad things. With celebrities, the studies of pop culture
remember someone being famous for being famous (not because they have actual talent)
often without mentioning the negatives of someone’s life….funny how that works
with famous people but not ordinary folk.
I already know that when readers start to REALLY view this
blog when I advertise it some may think the idea of writing blogged letters to
you as dumb. Why would you write a country star who will never wink an eye in
your direction? Dream killers never tend to be dream believers. Those who
destructively criticize sometimes drown in the criticism of their own
negativity. What matters most is not what these critics think but rather that I
believe or you believe or anyone believes in the dream they pursue. When given
a God filled vision to reach for, trying is all that really matters. “God doesn’t require that you succeed; he only
requires that you try.” – Mother Teresa
It becomes a tragedy when all we remember about individuals is
their mistakes whether they bring upon such scrutiny on their lives or not,
like one of your catchy songs.
If you would like to write a song about the sweet meaningful
letters I wrote on this blog I would dig a song of that caliber, or perhaps
even better you write a song about a random southern gentleman that started a
blog doing what he does best: writing and believing what others see as
impossible! Dreams are meant to be lived so those who believe in their
achievement may inspire those who do not. That might be the simple aspiration
of ministry in the message Christ brings.
YES we can (with the anointing of a God who believes in us
even when we do not believe in ourselves)! …..for those who believe….now that
would be a song worth writing.
The will to dream means nothing without the will to try.
Hope all this makes sense,
JLC iii
Ps. When would you like to go to dinner? ; )
